We are thrilled to announce that Travelling in the Dark by Emma Timpany has been awarded the Hall & Woodhouse DLF Writing Prize 2019.

The prize was set up in 2018 with the aim of encouraging writers based in, or well-connected to, the West Country.

Travelling in the Dark was published in July 2018 as part of our Fairlight Moderns. It is the story of Sarah, who after ten years travels back to her home town with her son. Returning to well-known places from her youth, Sarah reflects in the relationship with her family and the events of the past that have shaped her present.

Emma Timpany was born in Dunedin, New Zealand but moved to the UK in the 1990s, after receiving a BA degree in Anthropology form the University of Otago. Emma has published two collections of short stories, Over the Dam and The Lost of Syros, and co-edited a short story collection, Cornish Short Stories: A Collection of Contemporary Cornish Writing.
