Cecilia Dolan
Cecilia Dolan is a Creative Writing student at her local university and she has prospects of attending a London university next Fall.
Cecilia has been making up intricate stories in her mind for as long as she can remember but she really started putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) during the 2020 lockdown. She fell instantly in love with storytelling and never looked back. There’s Nothing Left That I Can Do is her first publication.
Q: If you could travel back in time, which of the great writers would you like to meet and why?
A: Sylvia Plath. I just started reading The Bell Jar and already the genius of the way she crafted a character driven narrative is so impressive. There is so much I would like to learn from her.
Q: Is there a book that you keep going back to, and if so, how many times have you read it?
A: Woman Eating by Claire Kohda is one of my favourite books. By now I’ve probably read through it about five times. I just love Literary Fiction and vampires in literature because of all that they can symbolise.
Q: Do you have a favourite quote? (From a book, film, song, speech…)
A: ‘I cry at the start of every movie. I guess cause I wish I was making things too’ – Mitski in her song, Working for the Knife.
Q: What superpower would you like to have and why?
A: Mind control. I know that must sound kind of villainous but I would use it for good I swear. I mean I would probably use it to secure myself a really nice secluded castle somewhere, but I would also stop climate change and stuff.
Q: If you could teleport yourself anywhere, real or fictional, where would it be and why?
A: I would probably frequently teleport myself to my best friend (anywhere in the world) to tell her whatever insignificant thought just popped into my head.
