George Nevgodovskyy
George Nevgodovskyy was born in Kiev, Ukraine, but has lived in Vancouver, Canada for most of his life. He currently enjoys a career in education, and gets his best writing done after everyone’s gone to bed.
George has been dabbling in various forms of creative writing since high school, but has only recently gotten serious about it. He has previously had short stories published in East of the Web and The Lyre magazine, and has work forthcoming in Literally Stories.
Q: If you could travel back in time, which of the great writers would you like to meet and why?
A: Not the most original answer, but I’d say Shakespeare just out of pure curiosity. I’d bring my laptop back in time with me so we could watch Shakespeare in Love together, and I’d get his minute-to-minute takes on it.
Q: Do you have a favourite quote? (From a book, film, song, speech…)
A: ‘Make no mistake my friend / All of this will end / So sing it now’ – Morrissey from the song Sing Your Life.
Q: Is there a book that you keep going back to, and if so, how many times have you read it?
A: To be honest I am generally a ‘one and done’ type of reader – I have a fear of missing out on other great books. Thomas Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 might be the only book I’ve read twice.
Q: If you could teleport yourself anywhere, real or fictional, where would it be and why?
A: I’d want to go to the future where there’s a neon-cyberpunk-noir-type of aesthetic. Maybe the city in Blade Runner 2049. Just because I like the vibe.
Q: Who is your personal inspiration?
A: David Bowie. George Orwell.
