Sarah Jones
Sarah Jones is a Northern Irish writer, based in Oxford. She started writing as a teenager, publishing stories on the social networking site Bebo for her friends to read. Since then, she has had stories published in indie magazines and online.
Sarah’s work has appeared on the Reflex Fiction Blog, in Jupiter Magazine, and in multiple Oxford Writing Circle Anthologies. In 2017 she won the Young Writers in Oxford Award, and in 2021 she completed an MA in Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes.
Q: If you could travel back in time, which of the great writers would you like to meet and why?
A: Probably Oscar Wilde. I’ve always loved reading about the decadent movement, and I think he’d orchestrate a great night out on the town.
Q: Do you have a favourite quote? (From a book, film, song, speech…)
A: ‘All of this has happened before and will happen again.’ From the TV show Battlestar Galactica.
Q: Is there a book that you keep going back to, and if so, how many times have you read it?
A: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. My copy is filled with post-it notes so I can revisit my favourite sections quickly. I will never get over how great Shirley Jackson is at mixing supernatural horror and domestic drama.
Q: What superpower would you like to have and why?
A: I’d like the power to grow things like trees and other plants. I’d grow myself a little forest hideaway and finally own a cactus that doesn’t die on me.
Q: If you could teleport yourself anywhere, real or fictional, where would it be and why?
A: I would love to stand on the moon and look back down at Earth. I think it would be a pretty existential experience, but it would be worth it.
